International students who wish to work in Taiwan (including in NCHU laboratories) for additional income must apply for a work permit.
How to apply a work permit?

Regulations
- Work Eligibility: According to the Employment Service Act of the Ministry of Labor, international students must obtain a work permit before engaging in any employment in Taiwan.
- Eligibility for a Work Permit: According to the “Qualifications and Criteria Standards for Foreigners Undertaking the Jobs Specified under Article 46.1.1 to 46.1.6 of the Employment Service Act,” only officially enrolled degree students at accredited colleges or universities in Taiwan are eligible to apply for a student work permit
- Validity Period of the Work Permit: The validity period of the work permit shall be subject to the approval of the Ministry of Labor. Each permit may be issued for a maximum period of one year, and the expiration date shall not extend beyond September 30 of each year. If continued employment beyond one year is required, a new application must be submitted before the current permit expires.
- Student Employment Regulations: During the academic semester, students may work up to 20 hours per week. This restriction does not apply during summer and winter vacations.

Penalties for Violations: Students who fail to apply for a work permit or violate relevant regulations may have their work permits revoked, be fined between NTD 30,000 and NTD 150,000, and, in serious cases, may be required to leave Taiwan immediately.
