ROC Uniform ID Number

For those without ARC but need to open a bank account, declare income taxes return, or apply for a driver's license, one has to have a ROC ID number. If applicants possessed a residence permit or have applied for this number before, please inform the coordinator of the National Immigration Agency.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • An application form

  • The original and one photocopy of the passport, including the visa.

  • Application fee: free

  • Processing time: about an hour


Visitor Visa Extension

The applicant can apply for an extension within 15 days prior to the expiration of a visitor visa.

Limitations:

(a) The duration of each extension should not be longer than the original visa.
(b) The holder of a visitor visa may not exceed staying six months of aggregate time in the country.
(c) It should be extended only twice and the period of extension should not be longer than 60 days.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • An application form.

  • The original and one photocopy of the passport with the visitor visa.

  • The following documents, as appropriate:

(a) Chinese language training:

  • An enrollment certificate or class schedule from an approved public or private language center or university.

  • Attendance record (except the first extension)

(b) Other: an approval letter from an authorized government agency.


Change Visitor Visa to Resident Visa

Foreign students who will stay in Taiwan for over 180 days need to change their Visitor Visa to Resident Visa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After getting the Resident Visa, you will need to apply for ARC in Immigration Agency within 15 days.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Original and copy of passport

  • Original and copy of Visitor Visa

  • Original and copy of student ID

  • Certificate of student status may obtain at the Division of Registration (NT$20)

  • Certificate of NCHU/Taiwan/ICDF Scholarship (proof of financial sufficiency)

  • Original and copy of Health Check Report

  • Around NT$3,000 (refer to  Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C.(Taiwan))

  • Two 2-inch photos

  • Visa application form


Resident Visa

Students who have entered on resident visas or are in the ROC(Taiwan) on exchangeable visas should apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and reentry permit at the Taichung City Branch Office of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days of obtaining their updated resident visas. The duration of stay is based on the period stipulated in the ARC.


Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

For a foreigner intending to reside for more than 180 days, one has to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate in the ROC.

1.Introduction

In order to allow foreign and overseas Chinese students to attend college and above in Taiwan, the students must obtain an alien resident visa at the Taiwan consular office in your home country before entering Taiwan. You must then apply for an alien resident certificate (ARC) on the (Ministry of the Interior) National Immigration Agency website within 15 days of your arrival.

 

2.Qualification

Any student with foreign nationality but not yet approved for naturalization in Taiwan may hold an admission permit/notice or certificate of enrollment and registration to fill out an application.

 

3.Application
  1. Foreign and overseas Chinese students who wish to attend school in Taiwan may apply through the online registration and certification system with an admission permit/notice or certificate of enrollment and registration provided by the attending school within 30 days after arriving in Taiwan.

  2. After acquiring a residence permit upon arriving in Taiwan and getting enrolled, the foreign and overseas Chinese students who need to extend their stay in Taiwan due to academic requirements shall apply for a residence permit renewal online within 30 days before the residence permit expires.

  3. After acquiring a residence permit upon arriving in Taiwan and getting enrolled, the foreign and overseas Chinese students who need to change their residence permit content shall apply for a residence permit alteration online.

 

4.Inquiry
  1. Inquiry for Application Progress
    After filling out and submitting an online application form, the foreign and overseas Chinese students may receive a set of confirmation numbers composed of 12-digit numbers. By gaining access to "application progress inquiry" under "progress inquiry", the students may key-in the conditions for inquiry so that the system will generate the relevant information automatically for the applicant to keep track of the progress.

  2. Inquiry for Priority
    After filling out and submitting out an online application form, the foreign and overseas Chinese students may receive a set of confirmation numbers composed of 12-digit numbers. By gaining access to the “priority” section, the students may select from a wide range of services provided by the system to keep track of the progress.

 

5.Online Payment

After the online application is reviewed and approved by the National Immigration Agency, please make your payment for the residence permit within 5 working days, with application content and price listed below:

  1. Price of a one-year residence permit for foreign students: NT$1,000.

  2. Price of a two-year residence permit for foreign students: NT$2,000.

  3. Price of a three-year residence permit for foreign students: NT$3,000.

  4. Price for alteration or re-issuance of residence permit: NT$500.

The system provides multi-payment options such as "international credit card", "ATM online", "virtual account payment", "e-government payment platform", and "payment at the four major convenience stores in Taiwan". Regarding the payment option of "International Credit Card", this platform does not support China UnionPay and American Express, and only JCB, VISA, MasterCard credit cards are used for online payment. After the payment is completed, no refund will be made.

 

6.E-residence Permit and Receipt Download

After the application is reviewed and approved by the National Immigration Agency and after the payment is made, foreign and overseas Chinese students who file the application will receive an e-mail automatically sent by the system informing them that the e-residence permit and receipt are ready for download. By signing in to the system, the foreign and overseas Chinese students are able to download their e-residence permits and receipts from "e-residence permit download" and "receipt download" in the "download section". Take the e-receipt to the service station in exchange for the IC card as a residence permit.

  • One photo. Color glossy print ID photos were taken without wearing headgear or sunglasses, white background.

  • The original and one photocopy of the passport, including the resident visa.

  • The original and one photocopy of the student ID card, an original receipt of tuition payment, an enrolment certificate or certificate of admission.

  • Application fee: NTD1,000 (one-year)

  • Processing time: 10 workdays


Resident Visas for Foreign Spouses of R.O.C.(Taiwan)

(Citizens Without Household Registration, Foreigners, Hong Kong Residents, Macau Residents, or Mainland Chinese Citizens)

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • An application form.

  • Two-color passport-size photos.

  • The original and one photocopy of the passport, including the resident visa.

  • The Original and one photocopy of the health certificate.

  • The Original and one photocopy of Certificate of Residence in the R.O.C., Alien Permanent Residence Certificate, Alien Residence Certificate, or various kinds of residence permits issued by the National Immigration Agency.

  • The Original and one photocopy of proof of marriage
