【OIA】NCHU International Cultural Festival: A Celebration of Diversity

On November 16, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) proudly hosted the "2024 International Cultural Festival", a vibrant event celebrating cultural diversity. The festival welcomed international students from countries such as Haiti, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, and Turkey. It also featured 42 students from 15 universities across Taiwan, including the Taiwan University System, National Taiwan Sport University, Chaoyang University of Technology, Tunghai University, Asia University, and Providence University, fostering cross-campus exchanges during the event.

Indian Dance Opening: A Fusion of Cultures
The festival began with an enthralling Indian dance performance titled "Rhythms of India," showcasing a blend of classical, regional, and modern styles. Zhao Guorong, Head of the International Students and Mainland Affairs Division, delivered the opening remarks, expressing gratitude to participants and encouraging cultural exchange and understanding.

Cultural Market: A Global Showcase
The cultural market was a highlight, featuring stalls designed by international students that presented their country's traditions and cuisines. Highlights included Myanmar's Laphet Thoke and Nan Gyi Thoke, Vietnam's fresh spring rolls and sweet corn pudding, Turkey's innovative green grape pearl tea, Haiti's savory pies and baked potatoes, and East Africa's Ugali and grilled skewers. Each stall offered a taste of its homeland, offering a truly global experience.

Global Chef Competition: Celebrating Creativity
In the "Global Chef Competition," judges Zhao Guorong, Su Yici, and Walton toured the stalls, tasting dishes and engaging with students. Contestants shared their cooking techniques and cultural stories, earning high praise for their creativity and dedication. Multiple stalls received awards for their outstanding efforts, further motivating the participants.

Cultural Performances: A Diverse Celebration
The stage performances added a lively touch to the festival. Okinawan students performed traditional Sanshin music, including "Shimauta" (Island Song), while another Japanese student showcased a self-composed piece, captivating the audience with live vocals and instrumental talent. Thai students celebrated Loy Krathong by performing traditional dances and leading a joyful parade around the venue, bringing an unforgettable festive atmosphere.

Interactive Cultural Quiz
The cultural quiz provided participants with an opportunity to interact with international students using English or their native languages. By completing challenges, attendees not only gained insights into diverse cultures but also received unique prizes, making the exchange both educational and enjoyable.

A Milestone for Campus Internationalization
The 2024 International Cultural Festival highlighted NCHU’s commitment to global engagement and cultural diversity. It provided a platform for international students to showcase their heritage while allowing local and visiting students to expand their global perspectives. The meticulous planning and warm execution by the Office of International Affairs earned widespread praise, cementing the festival as a milestone in NCHU’s journey toward campus internationalization.
