【OIA】The Office of International Affairs Led a Delegation to India to Promote the University's Excellence and Facilitate Diverse International Collaborations
To support the Ministry of Education's "New Southbound Policy Project", National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) organized a delegation to visit India and promote bilateral collaboration. Led by Dr. Kai-Jung Chi, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, the delegation included Professor Yin-Tsung Hwang (Department of Electrical Engineering), Assistant Professor Shu-Yun Chen (Department of Agronomy), Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. Chandrasekar Sivakumar (Department of Physics), and project coordinator Ms. Inger Tsai. From March 31 to April 6, 2024. They visited partner universities in New Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, and Mizoram to facilitate research and educational exchange opportunities. During this visit, the delegation concluded MOU signing processes with two new partner universities. They also engaged with universities holding collaborative potential, and exchanged perspectives with faculty and students in the fields of engineering, agriculture, and semiconductors. This endeavor yielded fruitful outcomes, facilitating the expansion of collaborative scopes and models between NCHU and Indian higher education institutions.
The delegation visited seven Indian universities: Delhi Technological University, Amity University, Symbiosis International Deemed University, IIT Bombay, University of Mumbai, ATLAS SkillTech University, and the College of Horticulture Thenzawl (Central Agricultural University, Imphal). The exchange meetings highlighted NCHU’s strengths introduced by Associate Vice President Kai-Jung Chi, covering diverse collaboration programs, as well as long- and short-term exchange and internship opportunities. Delegation members Professor Yin-Tsung Hwang, Assistant Professor Shu-Yun Chen, and Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. Chandrasekar Sivakumar conducted in-depth discussions showcasing their respective specialties. The delegation also met with Deputy Representative, Mu-Min Chen, and Head of the Education Division, Mr. Peters L.Y Chen, at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India, exchanging insights on Taiwan-India bilateral academic cooperation prospects. All host universities actively expressed appreciation and willingness to deepen exchanges and collaborations with NCHU.
In November 2023, Dr. Chi-Chung Chou, NCHU’s Senior Vice President for International Affairs, visited Amity University and Symbiosis International (Deemed University) through connections facilitated by Deputy Representative Mu-Min Chen. This paved the way for the signing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and Exchange Agreements between NCHU and these Indian institutions during the current delegation visit. Amity University has been ranked as India’s top private university by Education Times, and hosts a Taiwan Education Center on campus. Symbiosis International (Deemed University), recognized for its diverse academic scopes and globalized education, has been awarded an A++ grade by India's National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The new partnerships will facilitate faculty and student mobility, short-term exchanges, training programs, research collaborations, joint thesis supervision, and cross-national, interdisciplinary cooperation. Ultimately, these bilateral collaborations aim to attract more Indian students to pursue master’s or doctoral degrees at NCHU.
During this visit, the delegation also engaged in discussions with Indian students, covering NCHU's academic and research strengths, study and scholarship opportunities, the bilingual campus environment, support services for international students, and academic similarities and differences between Taiwan and India. These interactions revealed Indian students’ strong curiosity and keen interest in Taiwan.
NCHU’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) is dedicated to advancing the university's global education initiatives, fostering a diverse and internationally-minded campus atmosphere, as well as facilitating collaborative opportunities for faculty and students. This visit to India and subsequent meetings with university leaders have undoubtedly strengthened collaborations between NCHU and renowned Indian institutions. The exchange has enriched the international perspectives of faculty and students from both nations, jointly promoting the development of higher education and research between Taiwan and India.
