【NEWS】U.S. Delegation Led by Lieutenant Governor of the State of South Dakota Visited NCHU Deepening Taiwan-U.S. Exchange and Cooperation

On June 28th, 2024, Delegation from the United States South Dakota, consisting of 10 members, led by Lieutenant Governor of the State Mr. Larry Rhoden visited National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) The meeting was hosted by President Fuh-Jyh Jan, where both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening Taiwan-U.S. exchanges and cooperation. President of NCHU, Dr. Fuh-Jyh Jan, President of South Dakota State University, Dr. Barry H. Dunn, and Lieutenant Governor of the State of South Dakota State, Mr. Larry Rhoden, signed a cooperation agreement, paving the way for future collaborations.

The Delegation, led by Lieutenant Governor Mr. Larry Rhoden from the State of South Dakota, included representatives from South Dakota State University (SDSU), the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, South Dakota Biotech, South Dakota Dairy Producers, and South Dakota Trade. The meeting was chaired by President Jan and attended by Senior Vice President for International Affairs Dr. Chi-Chung Chou, Director for Academic Exchange Division at the Office of International Affairs Dr. Edith Su, and Professor of Graduate Institute of International Politics Dr. Mu-Min Chen.

President Jan noted that Taiwan and the United States have been sharing a deep friendship especially in the area of agriculture and Taichung City's focus on water-saving irrigation, organic agriculture, and high-tech farming aligns closely with South Dakota's agricultural priorities. He believes that this collaboration could not only help address global agricultural challenges jointly but also promote sustainable agricultural development, and looks forward to opening up more and more cooperation opportunities between Taiwan and the U.S. in the future.

Lieutenant Governor of the State of South Dakota Mr. Larry Rhoden shared his delight in visiting Taiwan for the third time, emphasizing Taiwan's growing importance. He highlighted that this visit demonstrates the United States' commitment to cooperation with Taiwan. Mr. Rhoden also expressed pleasure in the signing of the academic cooperation agreement between NCHU and SDSU, and he looks forward to expanding academic collaboration and bilateral exchanges in the agricultural sector in the future.
Mr. Luke Linberg, the President & CEO of South Dakota Trade, underscored Taiwan's significance as a crucial partner for the United States. He noted that the Delegation immediately arranging a visit to Taiwan after visiting Japan exemplifies America's prioritization of its relationship with Taiwan and they are here to convey their support for Taiwan's democracy, freedom, and thriving economy, aiming to deepen Taiwan-U.S. cooperation through this visit.

Over years, NCHU has maintained substantive exchange programs with the United States, fostering close cooperation between the two parties. It is hoped that this exchange will further advance the bilateral collaboration in academic, educational, and cultural realms, connecting higher education policies between Taiwan and the United States, and encouraging more outstanding American students and university faculties to apply for exchanges at NCHU.

The conference is believed not only to witness the friendship and achievements of exchange between NCHU and the U.S. but also to inaugurate a new chapter in Taiwan-U.S. cooperation.
