Notice No.56NCHU Confirms Seventh and Eighth Case of COVID-19

The seventh and eighth cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on 26th April 2022, and the university immediately collaborated with Taichung City Government to perform contact tracing. The relevant instructions are as follows:

1. The seventh case: Sore throat and flu-like symptoms appeared on 19th April 2022 and 21st to 23rd April 2022 respectively and did not get better, so the student did a rapid antigen test on 25th April 2022, which showed a positive result. The student then went to a hospital for PCR test, which showed a positive result as well on 26th April 2022. The university has disinfected possible contaminated areas on campus. Preliminarily, one person was listed as close contact, conducting home quarantine now, waiting for the public health bureau’s confirmation. The close contact went home on 26th April 2022, being asymptomatic now. Once noticing his roommate (the seventh case) was infected on 26th April 2022, the student did a self-test right away, which showed a positive result, and went to the hospital for PCR test; the result has been closely tracked. Other non-close contacts and contacts of close contacts (classes, etc.) should enforce self-health monitoring and do a rapid antigen test if suspected symptoms appear.

2. The eighth case: The student noticed (on 25th April 2022) a friend whom he had met up with on 22nd April 2022 had been infected, so he went to a hospital for the rapid antigen test, which showed a positive result; he immediately reported to the university. The contact tracing so far shows no travel history and close contacts on campus two days before being confirmed, indicating no potential spreading risks on the campus; the final confirmation should be made by the public health bureau.

CECC announced (on 19th April 2022) that most Omicron confirmed cases are mild or asymptomatic, and the vaccination rate in Taiwan is continually increasing, therefore different treatments for mild and severe COVID-19 cases and home care should be implemented at this moment. Regarding the seventh case, the student may enforce home care in accordance with the one-person-per-room principle.

Due to the surge in Covid-19 confirmed cases, namely thousands of people being tested positive, please be reminded that you can protect yourself from being infected by having a complete vaccination and booster, staying at home if unwell, wearing a mask and cleaning your hands regularly. Be heedful of suspected symptoms like fever, sore throat, respiratory complications, loss of smell or taste, diarrhea, etc.

If any of the suspected symptoms appear (e.g., fever, sore throat, respiratory complications, loss of smell or taste, or diarrhea), please wear a medical mask and seek medical attention immediately at a nearby hospital. If you are a contact of the close contacts of confirmed cases, having a fever/other suspected symptom, holding a doctor’s note while being a moderate/high-risk contact who hasn’t done a rapid antigen test given by medical centers, you may get a rapid antigen test kit for a quick check from the Office of Student Health and Counseling Center, and avoid using any public transportation.

When in the hospital for treatment, please inform the physician regarding your contact and travel history, potential occupational exposure to the virus, as well as anyone around you with similar symptoms. When returning home, please continue to wear a medical mask and avoid making any unnecessary trips.

Sincerely,
NCHU Epidemic Prevention Team
