Guideline of National Chung Hsing University
Scholarship for Foreign Students
Amended at the 326th Administrative Meeting on
Mar. 21, 2007
1. The purpose of the
scholarship is to attract outstanding
international students to come to study in NCHU,
which is in line and based upon the policy of
MOE scholarship guideline.
2. The budget of NCHU
Scholarship is derived from and set up by the
university and/or supported by funds from
outside of the school.
3.
Eligibility:(Either
category)
I.
New
applicants (international students) applying for
admission into the academic programs at NCHU
excluding the overseas Chinese students.
II.
International students already studying in NCHU
with the exception of those who did not perform
well academically or those who extended their
graduation or oversea Chinese students.
However, applicants must be not awarded the
scholarship if they already have other
scholarship which is higher than NT$15,000.-
4. Amount of the Scholarship:
n
A
monthly stipend of NT$8,000~NT$20,000 for each
recipient.
n
The
tuition fees will be waived depending on the
academic performance of the applicant or Grade
Point Average (GPA).
n
Recipients may reapply for extension of NCHU
scholarship, which will review by “National
Chung Hsing University International Scholarship
Committee”.
5. Application deadline:
Before March 31 of every year for that academic
year starting
from September of that year.
6.
Required documents:
I. For new applicants,
the required documents will be as same as those
for the application of admission, which is
included as the following:
A.
A
completed application form with photo attached.
A 2 inches photo of the face without any
headgear.
B.
A
photocopy of the highest diploma attained
(translated into Chinese or English). The
diploma and the transcript must be certified by
Taiwan representative office in/near your
country. (http://www.boca.gov.tw/mp?mp=2.)
Official transcript of academic records
(translated into Chinese or English) with grade
point average (preferable on a 0-4 scale) from
each institution attended (high school for those
seeking undergraduate admission;
university/college for those applying to MS or
PhD programs). To apply for PhD program, please
submit the summary of your Master thesis. Your
department might require the thesis later.
C.
Two
letters of recommendation.
D.
A
study plan, written in Chinese or English.
E.
Autobiography within 300~500 words, written in
Chinese or English.
F.
Proof of financial sufficiency.
G.
Telephone interview agreement.
II. For extending the
duration or reinstatement of reward the
scholarship applicants must submit:
A.
Scholarship renewal application form. (The form
can be obtained at the Division of Foreign
Student Affairs, Office of International Affiars,
NCHU)
B.
The
official transcript of academic records.
C.
List of Publication (If any, manuscripts can
also be submitted). Awards or citation received
and other supporting documents (If any)
7.
Application Process for the Scholarship and its
review:
I.
New
applicant for admission needs only to check in
the box that he or she wishes to apply for the
scholarship, and the University will consider
his or her eligibility on the basis of the
applicant’s submitted data.
II. New applicants must
submit the application forms and other required
documents to the Division of Foreign Student
Affairs, Office of International Affairs, NCHU.
III.
The
applications will be reviewed by the National
Chung Hsing University International Scholarship
Committee. Successful applicants will be
informed by the end of April. However, delay in
the announcement should be anticipated pending
on the budget of the university.
8.
National Chung Hsing University International
Scholarship Committee members comprised of:
Dean of Office of International Affairs, Dean of
Office of Academic Affairs, Dean of Office of
Student Affairs, Dean of Office Research and
Development and Deans of the respective
colleges. Dean of Office of International
Affairs will be the convener and the moderator
of the committee meeting. The meeting will be
organized by Division of Foreign Students,
Office of International Affairs, NCHU.
9.
Scholarship Eligibility Review Criteria:
I. Academic performances:70%
II. Other performances:30%
10.
Time Span of the Scholarship:
I.
From August of the award year to July, the
following year.
II. Successful
applicants will be awarded the scholarship on a
monthly basis. Scholarship recipients will
forfeit their eligibility to receiving the
scholarship if they applied to temporarily
suspend their school attendance, leave or
graduate from the school, or they have lost
their status as international students.
11.
NCHU Scholarship holder will lose their
scholarship holder status if they go abroad
without the university permission. However, the
scholarship recipients can reapply to reinstate
their scholarship by applying for a review by
the Scholarship Evaluation Committee.
12.
This guideline will be put into practice after
being deliberated and authorized the
university’s administrative meeting. Amendment
to this guideline will follow the same
procedure.
